– AROUND THE SCHOOL
Dee’s Third Class: Réamhaisnéis na haimsire
This week in 3rd class we have been learning all about ‘ An Aimsir’. The children prepared their news scripts, and we made short videos to present our weather reports. Tá a lán spórt agus spraoi againn.
Marcella’s Senior Infants
SI has just completed 6 weeks of GAA with Coach Johnny. They learned lots of GAA skills, such as bouncing, passing, knee solos, and kicking. They were working on accuracy when kicking and passing and spatial awareness of themselves and others when moving around. Coach Johnny commended all the children, saying that they showed a lot of skill and enthusiasm for the sport.
Cliona’s Junior Infants
Clíona’s Junior Infants have been learning about the number 2. Look at their Towns of 2. Can you spot all the sets of 2?
Splash in Conor’s Class.
This week Conor’s 2nd Class have been experimenting with water in our Science lessons. We made predictions about which classroom items would float and which would sink. Darragh predicted that a pencil would float and it did. Leo predicted that a watch would float but it didn’t. Naoise predicted that a piece of plastic would float and it did. Next week, we will be creating boats for Gráinne Mhaol, ‘Ireland’s Pirate Queen’. Hopefully our understanding about which materials float will help us create unsinkable boats!
Fiona And Hazel
In October Fiona and Hazel’s 6th class went on a trip to City Hall. We had a tour of the building and learned about the history of the building. Pupils saw the members lounge area and the inner workings of the City Hall. Pupils saw where their teacher Councilor Fiona Connelly sits when she attends council meetings. We learned that it is protocol to address Councilors by their second name only for example Councilor Connelly.
As part of the tour we sat in the Council Chamber and debated three topics. Homelessness, Homework and what could be done to prevent antisocial behaviour in our locality. It was a pleasure to hear our pupils speak so well on these topics and it was funny for everyone to be addressed as councilors and use second names. Pupils all spoke through the chair of the meeting as would happen during a council meeting.
At the end we took turns posing for photographs in the Lord Mayor’s seat. It was a great day out learning about local politics in Dublin.
