NEWSLETTER-13.03.2015

Welcome to this week’s Newsletter –

ETHOS: We hope you enjoy celebrating Patrick’s Day next week. We will have a Céilí Dance for the children in the hall on Monday with live music – fiddle, pipes, & box. If any more musicians want to come along and join in the session, please contact the office.

SOLAR ECLIPSE: We will be observing a partial solar eclipse on Friday.` The eclipse will begin at around 8:24 am Irish time, with the totality, or maximum point of the eclipse hitting around 9:29am. The event will end around 10:37 am. Hopefully we will have clear sky to observe the eclipse.

We are planning a very active morning for the eclipse. The children will be making viewing boxes, so please send in empty cereal boxes before Friday for this science activity. Also, if anyone has a special interest or ideas that they would like to contribute, please volunteer to help out on Friday morning. Or just volunteer anyhow, and come in and help out. Contact your class teacher.

ACTIVE SCHOOLS: Thanks to all who have volunteered to be on the organising committee, Fiona is looking forward to meeting next week.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION: Movie Night will take place at our school on Saturday 21st March from 5pm – 6.30pm for Junior infant classes and 5pm to 7 pm for Hazel and Aodans’ classes. Our goody bag will cost €5 per child and will help raise some much needed funding for the next phase of the works to improve the overall aesthetic environment of the school for our children. We will have a pop-up cafe in the hall with a play area for younger siblings. If you are interested in helping out  please contact Irenie at [email protected] or by phone.  Please bring goodies, savoury or sweet, to sell at the cafe. Details of the movies being shown will be sent out early next week.

On behalf of the Parents Association Committee we would like to thank all parents who helped run a coffee morning last week. In particular, we would like to thank Reiltin Feely for driving this event.  We hope to run at least one more coffee morning in term three.  Many thanks for all your support as always

TEACHING AND LEARNING: Thanks to everyone for coming in to our student led conferences over the last two weeks. They were very successful and the feedback has been really positive.

Hazel has made a trip to The Ark today and Aodán’s class has gone to visit an art exhibition and will be meeting the artist. Thanks to Michelle who came into Wilma’s class to do a ‘printing lesson’.

Check out the GALLERY for updated photos.

PHOTOGRAPHER: We will be having our school photographer visiting on Wednesday 18th to take pictures of the children. All children will be photographed and you can decide if you want to purchase the photographs after. So please remember to give the children a ‘scrubbing-up’ for Wednesday!

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

  • Capoeira classes will take place each Friday for the next four weeks. There will be a class at 1:15 and another at 2:15. There was a great turnout for the early class last week but there are still some places available. The second class has about 6 participants and it would be great for all if we could increase this number. If there is sufficient demand the classes will be extended beyond the four week period.
  • There will be no Irish Dancing next week. Irish dancing will be on the the 23rd and 24th of March and dancing will continue after the Easter holidays.

POD: Thank-you to those who have returned the POD forms. The part of the form that we passed onto you is the ‘compulsory page’. There are some still outstanding and we will be contacting you directly if you do not return them before next week.

REMINDER – School closes on Friday 27th March at 12-noon for Spring holidays. School re-opens on Monday 13th April.

Have a great weekend,

Dermot & Staff.
