Message from Dermot

Welcome to our Newsletter.

As part of our 10th birthday celebrations, we decided to redesign our school logo. W have been working on our new logo since last term. The children all contributed ideas and this inspired the final design. Today, the students council launched the logo at our assembly, and the children loved it as we hope you do too – thanks to all involved. You will begin to see our new logo on our materials, merchandise, website and also on the front of our building when we have upgrade works completed – all in coming months.

Update from Parents Association Comittee

Hi Everyone,

We had our first meeting of the year on Wednesday 20th September. We are looking forward to the year ahead with plenty of social and fundraising events being planned. This year we will be fundraising for some much needed built in storage for the hall for PE and music equipment. We are also fundraising for some more garden resources to make the garden an even better learning space for all. In order for these events to happen we need as many volunteers as possible to make these events a success. We are extremely grateful to parents who organised the events last year.

Upcoming events for you diary

Book Fair – w/c 06/11/2023 The book fair will be happening when we return from our midterm. The school receives money to spend on books from all books purchased during the week.

Online Winter Quiz – 03/12/2023 Our first major event, the Online Winter Quiz, needs a group of parents to make this happen. Please contact [email protected] to help us with this event.

Class coffee mornings- these will be up and running soon. Your class rep will let you know when your coffee morning is. This is a great way to meet other parents in the year group while also raising much needed funds for the school.

We are seeking New Parents Representatives for our Board of Management. We sent you an email this week about this item and this information can also be found on the Board of Management page here. We encourage everyone to read this and consider this. thank you.

Dress Up, School Closure, Holidays & Gates.

School closures:

Wednesday 25th October – School Closes for all classes at 1:10pm – for staff training.

Monday 30th Oct – Friday 3rd November – School Closed for midterm.

Dress Up:

Children will have annual dress up on last day of this term – 27.10.2023

GATES:

Please note that the garden gate is only used for exiting the premises. Please do not enter through the garden.

GAA Football Win for Canal Way ETNS

The Canal Way ETNS Girls GAA Football Team had a victory over Dominic’s in Dublin 12. They won by 1 point and did our school so proud. Thanks Simon for managing this and thanks to the team and for your support.

MORE BLEEPER E-BIKES FOR CWETNS

We are excited to announce that Bleeper, will be once be again partnering with CWETNS on a the Bike Library Project that aims to encourage sustainable transportation in schools.

CWETNS has access to an e-bike library containing 15 e-bikes that will be available for loan to parents on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all 15 e-bikes are lent out, any further parents applying will be placed on a waiting list. Parents will have the opportunity to borrow an e-bike for up to 6 months.

Please complete the form below to apply to participate in your CWETNS Bike Library. Once you have submitted the form you will be contacted by a member of staff from Bleeper, which manages and maintains the Bike Library.

STEM Week in CWETNS

Next week we will be having STEM week in Canal Way ETNS and we shall be doing activities based in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Children will enjoy:

Lego Activities and challenges.
Maths Challenges.
Design challenges and activities.
Maths Trails.
Trips for 1st class.
Quizes.
STEM art
Scenice workshopping.

Lost and Found

Please label all items of clothing your child is liable to take off during the day – hats, scarves, coats, hoodies. We have accumulated over 4 boxes of unlabelled clothes in the past 6 weeks.

Lost & Found is located inside the Junior Infants door – off the main yard. Please don’t email the school – come and have a look if you are missing something,

SCOOTERS – We have number of scooters in the school which have been abandoned in the yard over the last few weeks. .Leaving scooters in our yard is a serious attraction for antisocial behaviour and trespassing. PLEASE do not leave bikes or scooters in the yard. We have several in the building for you to collect if you are one of the families who needs to reclaim them.

New Student Council Elected

Our new student council has been elected and they officially formed last week. We had a meting today and managed the release of the Logo.

Last week we were discussing livestock in the garden, and how we should proceed this year.

Thankyou to all students who nominated themselves and congratulations to our elected members.

Visitors from Serbia

Last week we hosted visitors from The Department of Education in Serbia. We collaborated with ET Head Office, and showcased our school and the guiding principals of the Educate Together ethos. Serbia are currently exploring different models of education and are interested in the Educate Together philosophy. It was an honour to be chosen by head office to host these visitors and they were genuinely impressed with outrstudents and their ability to speak and express their thoughts and ideas.

A Wedding in Canal Way ETNS

The Scarecrows arrived in our garden. Sammy and Mr Tuí.

Junior Infants were invited to their wedding today and there was great craic to be had. No-one else was invited as they are not into any fuss and wanted a more dignified day.

We wish them all the best in their married life.
