MESSAGE FROM DERMOT

The school is settling back into a nice rhythm this week, and the children are tipping away and enjoying being back with their friends. Our core value this month is ‘belonging‘. Assembly today was held in the yard in the sunshine, and Mick’s 6th class, who are being taught by Ellie this week, presented and sang a piece about ‘belonging’. They were seriously impressive and it was great to hear their voices. The whole school are singing ‘Cover Me In Sunshine’. We hope you have a lovely weekend and hope you are getting to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

ECA’s start in our school next week. Everybody has details of this now and we trust all interested have organised themselves and have enrolled.

I would like to thank the Parent Association Committee who have organised this for our community, in particular Kirstin, Marie and Shiela. There is a large amount of work in this, and their support and help is truly appreciated.

Sibling & Infant Hour is also up and running now. Thanks for your patience on this, and thanks also to Teresa for running the club.

HEALTHY FAMILIES / PARENTS PLUS COURSE

This is a Parents Plus Healthy Families Programme – eight week evidence-based course suitable for all parents of children under 12. A practical course to improve your children’s health and well-being. Support your children to Learn healthy eating habits for life, Reduce their screen time and increase physical activity, have a restful sleep routine, develop positive relationship. As a parent, learn how to take back control from unhealthy
environments, create a home environment that promotes positive physical and mental health, set rules and good habits around screen time, develop positive family relationships.

CWETNS SWOPPING GROUP

Our school community has a swapping group, run by parents. It has 105 members so far and has been successful in swapping some random stuff. At the moment there is a bike helmet, a potty and a reception desk up for grabs.

RITES OF PASSAGE

COMMUNION: Anybody interested in making their ‘Communion’ can contact parent Ann on 0894177149.

CONFIRMATION: Anybody interested in 6th Class in making their Confirmation, a meeting will be held on the 22nd September in St. Teresa’s Church, Donore Avenue at 7.30pm.-

School Closures

Mid Term Break is October 31st – Nov 4th. School re-opens at 08:30 Mon 7th Nov.

Junior Infants 2023 – Registration

Siblings – if you have a younger sibling due to join please make sure that they are registered by September 30th. Forms are available from the office. We need to know how many siblings we have so that we know how many places we then have for general registration in October.

Registration will open for all families in the wider community from October 1st – October 31st on our website. Please tell your friends and neighbours.

Attendance / Roll Taking

School opens at 08:30 and the gates close at 08:45. Children have that 15 minutes to assemble to be ready for teaching at 08.45am. We ask you to have your children in school by this time. Teaching formally begins at 08:45.

In accordance with the Rules for National Schools the roll is taken 40mins after formal instruction begins – We take the roll at 09.30am. If your child is not in school at this time they must be marked as absent. If they arrive later it can be noted by the parent in Aladdin Connect that they arrived after 09:30. We cannot mark a child as present if they are not in the building at 09:30am. (ref Rules for National Schools Page 28)

Absenteeism

If your child is unwell, please send a note in when they return. Enter the reason in Aladdin.

ONLY email us if it is contagious or COVID. If you email us why your child is out, we still require you to enter the reason for your absence yourself in Aladdin.

LOCAL EVENTS & INTERESTS

CLIMATE FESTIVAL,

FREE fun family event hosted by South Dublin County Council, is taking place on Saturday 17th of September from 11am to 4pm in Tallaght’s Tymon Park. Learn about Sustainable Living at the Climate Fest! Biodiversity, recycling and reusing will all be part of the excitement. Take a biodiversity tour with heritage expert Dale Treadwell around Tymon Park Wood, create a pet bed and graffiti from unusual reuse materials with ReCreate or listen to a talk in our Living Lab Community Hub. Climate Fest is taking place alongside Tymon Park Food & Craft market where there will be live music, food stalls and circus entertainers during the day.

LOCAL CHILDMINDER

Tanya is a local resident who has contacted the school and has informed us she is available for child minding before and after school. Tanya’s details are [email protected] 089 2077689 We are not endorsing this service and advise you do all regular checks if considering engaging this lady – check garda-vetting, registration with TUSLA etc.

LOST AND FOUND

CLOTHES: We will display clothes every Friday morning and afternoon, in the yard.

BIKES AND SCOOTERS: There have been some really nice bikes and scooters left in the yard unclaimed. they are in the gallery below. We cannot leave these in the yard overnight as they are likely to be either stolen or used to go through a window if we have trespassers. We have no space to store these so if they are not claimed by next Friday We will be donating them to charity.
