MESSAGE FROM DERMOT

Welcome to the Newsletter.

Congratulations to our Hurling Team and also to the women’s football team who qualified this week for the World Cup. There were great celebrations around the school for both of these results!

School Assembly today was great. We were treated to a fashion show ‘as Gaeilge’, our birthday train, and we congratulated the children on their yard behaviour and improvements on safe lining up.

Thankyou for your winter cards

There has been a great response to the CWETNS Winter Cards.

Thankyou to Eavan who has organised the logistics on this one.

The money raised will go to the PAC fundraising appeal.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Over the past month we have undertaken the election of the Student Council for 2022/23 for Canal Way ETNS. The students were elected by their peers and will serve for the school year. Each class 2nd-6th has one representative with 6th class having a second tasked with representing 1st class and the Infant classes.

The student council is currently working on how to design a fun and welcoming yard for our newly surfaced school yard. The student council will continue to represent the student voice in the running of our school throughout the school year.

At the first council meeting we elected the following rolls:

Chairperson : Mark Óg

Secretary : Flora

Treasurer : Megan

PARENTS ASSOCIATION AGM

The Parents Association AGM will be held at 8pm on October 19th on Zoom. A link will be sent to you regarding this and we ask that you put this date in your diary. We look forward to the meeting where we will be presented with completed work from our committee, finance reports etc.

BOOK FAIR

The book fair is taking place in the school late next week. For those unfamiliar with the book fair, we have age appropriate books from all classes available for purchase by parents. A percentage of the total money spent is gifted back to the school to be spent on more books for the school. It will be organised as follows

Thursday 20th – children preview the books with their class.
Friday 21st, Monday 24th & Tuesday 25th – book shop will be open in the hall from 08.30 – 9.00am for parents to come in and purchase books.

the CWETNS Parents Association Committee are running this event and we would like to thank them and thank your for your support.

LUNCHES

Families often bring ‘lunch time’ to our attention and the time the children have for eating. We understand that children may not finish their lunch, and have discussed this often at staff meetings and parent meetings. No staff member will ever pressurise a child to eat food, but there are things we can do together to improve this within the constraints of the curricular times as set by the government:

Staff encourage the whole class to eat their lunch.
Staff encourage the whole class to stay focussed and to not become distracted while eating their lunch.
Families to pack foods that are easy to eat.
Families to encourage children to eat their lunch when they are in school.
Families to pack reasonably sized lunches that the child likes.
Staff will never pressurise an individual child to eat.

CWETNS Hurling

This month students from Amy’s 3rd class went to St. Kevin’s GAA to compete in a hurling blitz.
This was a successful day for Canal Way.

The team displayed all the important characteristics of a great sports player; respect, determination and enthusiasm.

Well done to all involved.
