Welcome this the last newsletter of the school year,
SCHOOL PLAY – STRANGER SCHOOLS – Oh WHAT A NIGHT !
I am sure that by now you have all heard about the outstanding play that was performed during the week. Written by Zac, Charlie, Patrick, Stephen and teachers Shane and Hazel.
The play was set in Canal-Way Educate Together, in the year 2018. Everything was perfect, school full of laughter and art, until one day three horrible inspectors found their way into the school and changed everything. Our four graduates came to the rescue and saved Dermot from destroying everything with his evil potion.
The performances had the audience crying tears of laughter and sadness, as the plot twisted and turned, with outstanding performances from every child, from the smallest role to the largest – Even the stage crew had us charmed.
Directed by Hazel and Shane. We can never thank you enough for the amount of work and dedication you put into this production for the children and the whole school community.
Thanks to parent Shane Torpey for donating and installing the lighting rig (Partech LED), To parents Paul O Mahony and Trevor Bacon for stage design and construction, Wilma and Percy for music. Thanks to Niamh, Dermot, Hazel, Aodán, Wilma, Michael and myself for painting! Michael for sound, Aodán for audio visual installations.

GRADUATION – Congratulations to our sixth class students who graduated yesterday. They were our first graduates, and we wish them all the best in their further studies. We miss them already. I was sure I heard Zac’s voice this morning down the corridor. But dry your eyes, pull it together -They are more than ready for secondary school and we are proud as punch to have had them in our school, and to send them off as our first graduates from Canalway Educate Together. CONGRATULATIONS – To Doireann on the birth of her baby boy. He is a smasher Doireann.
SCHOOL POLICIES – We have put policy drafts on the website. LINK HERE Pease read over the coming weeks and send me an email with observations and contributions. We will be ratifying these in late September.
GEOGRAPHY / TRAVELS
Next year these are the countries that pupils will be learning about the following countries.

If you are travelling to these countries please bring back items that we could use for learning. In particular things that relate to children’s lives. Thanks for your support in developing the school’s Geography resources.

SCHOOL RE-OPENING
School reopens on Thursday 30th August at 08:30 from Senior Infants up to 6th Class for a full day.
Junior Infants will start on the 30th August at 08:45 (in the yard) and finish at 11.00 – a timetable for the first few weeks of Junior Infants has been emailed to all parents.
NATIONAL PLAY DAY – Sunday July 1st
National Playday is a free family event coming to Dublin’s Merrion Square this Sunday, 1st July, to celebrate 25 years of Ireland’s ratification of UN Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC). Promising lots of fun and activity to celebrate Article 31, families are invited to join in the action-packed day in Merrion Square from 1pm-5pm this Sunday. The perfect opportunity for children and their families to partake in creative and interactive activities, National Playday will highlight the ‘right to play’ for children and young people across our city. Weadvise families to wear old clothes as we expect things to get messy!

Thank you to our generous sponsors for the Summer Fair: Lidl, SuperValu, Tesco Express, and Ennis Butchers. Mega thanks to Tom from Bee Cycles, who helped tune up the bikes and give bike advice to all who asked. And also to Klee Paper, who helped to supply us with sustainable products so that we could make it a Leave No Trace event.
Thanks also to the amazing Capoeira group, who put on such an exciting display.
Finally, thanks also to all the wonderful volunteers who helped us on the day. It was a great success and we couldn’t have done it without you!
