ACCOMODATION & SITE: The Board of Management are considering the approval for portacabins to go onsite to facilitate our growing school. Thank-you for all the support in escalating this matter with our local representatives. We have had numerous visits by local representatives which resulted in Dáil questions and just this week Senator Maura Devine questioned Minister Bruton in the Seanad, on the lease arrangement in our school. SEE COVERAGE HERE The media piece has been recorded and will be going out on RTE next week, on Morning Ireland. We will be in touch when we get times etc.
TEACHING AND LEARNING: We had Zac’s dad Brian in today, who works in James’s, and he told Niamh’s class about his super power XRAY vision – thanks Brian. We are learning Mr Tembo in assembly and it sounds brilliant. Ann from the National Heritage Association came into our school today and brought Tomás the lamb and two chickens. The children have had a ball today in the garden learning and having the craic with the three of them. Not too sure how they will feel about a roast dinner on Sunday though – you’ve been warned. Thanks Wilma for sorting this one, from the staff and children.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION
PERFORMERS WANTED Rock The Way 2018 – Parents Performance Night, April 13th 2018 Last year the PAC put on a night of music in the Bello Bar, Portobello. All the entertainment the night was provided by CWET parents and their friends. It was a lot of fun and it was a great fundraiser for the school.
We’re doing it again this year and we’re looking for parents to take part. Fancy doing a few tunes on guitar or piano? Are you in a band? Are you a DJ or poet? We’re looking for sets of between 5 and 20 minutes, nothing too taxing. If you’re interested contact any member of the PAC, email parentssecretary@portobelloetns.org or talk to Mark Jordan* in the yard.
*Mark can usually be found in the mornings standing in Niamh’s junior infants line in a bright orange bicycle helmet wondering where his children are.
COMEDY NIGHT Our Comedy Night last week in MVP was a great success. Many thanks to everyone who attended and to the folks put the show on the road – both behind the scenes and up on stage. We raised €850, which the school will be investing in sports equipment.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITIES We need individuals who can help us to keep the After School Activities programme running. If you can be there between 14:10 – 15:10 any day from Monday – Thursday, please let us know. It’s light work – escorting kids to the loo, helping out with any of the Activities that may require it, etc. The reality is, we will not be able to continue our amazing After School Activities programme unless more people pitch in. So please, if you can, do! Email [email protected]. All volunteers must be Garda vetted.
SAVE THE DATE We are running a Table Quiz on March 9th in McGowans of Harold’s Cross. This is an annual event by now, and is always great fun. Start gathering your teams and get ready to rumble! All funds raised will be invested in new books for the school.
Also, if you can contribute prizes for the night (for the raffle or the quiz), it would be super! Please contact Thom Malone directly, or email parentssecretary@portobelloetns.org.
