Newsletter 06.11.2014

Welcome to this week’s newsletter,

ETHOS: November is Human Rights month. Our core value is Equality. We have now learned ‘Blowin In the Wind’ and practiced it for the final time at assembly this week. We read through a Human Rights book also assembly, which the children truly enjoyed, & there was jiving!  We will be moving onto seasonal songs next week.

SCHOOL NAME: We have communicated the new name of our school to Educate Together Head Office, and are awaiting their approval. We will be in touch really soon, unless ye have it figured out already …

PARENTS ASSOCIATION: Hope to see you at the Portobello ETNS table quiz next Friday 14th at 8pm in McGowan’s of Harold’s Cross. It’s 40 euro per table of four, please come early to make sure you get a table. Not got the full four? Come along anyway, tables can be made up on the night. A big thanks to all those who have sponsored or donated prizes: parents, friends and many local businesses. A special thank you also to Richard at thinkhouse.ie for our poster designs.

COAT HOOKS: Students and teachers would like to extend a huge thank-you to Senior Infant Parent Trevor Bacon for designing and installing our eye popping coat hooks. We definitely have the grooviest coat hooks in town. He has brought colour and function to our corridors, and they are done to perfection. The children are thrilled with them, and have even started to leave their coats overnight HAVE A LOOK IN THE GALLERY!

(Reminder to parents – please label all clothing with your child’s name.)

FURNITURE SALE: thank-you to all volunteers who helped out at the furniture sale on Saturday and a big thankyou to all parents who braved the rain and helped support the first fundraising event in our new school. All money raised will go towards buying much needed materials for phase two of works to the school building. The school desks were very popular and there are still some left if anyone is still interested. Pop into the school in the morning to have a look if you like or contact Irenie McLoughlin by emailing [email protected]

TEACHING AND LEARNING: The children have been out and about today on shape walks and seeking out old and new things in the environment. Have a look at the gallery. Also see Static fun when our staff were team teaching in science class this week.

VOLUNTEERS: If anyone has a spare 15 minutes tomorrow morning, I would be most grateful if ye could help with some light furniture moving to upstairs.

Enjoy the weekend,

Dermot & Staff.
