MESSAGE FROM DERMOT

We shall be having CWETNS Winter Celebrations at the end of December and we will be in touch with various details about that.

Next week we will be having Human Rights week. Our core value is Equality and next month it will be Hope. Today we enjoyed assembly in the yard. We sang Blowing in the Wind by Bob Dylan – it might be something you could listen to at home.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Fifth class undertook basic first aid training this week which was a great success. The first aid trainer indicated the importance of all children knowing their postcode in the case of an emergency. An easy thing to practise at home.

Junior Infants have been learning about winter and animals that hibernate. They made some clay hedgehogs which turned out fantastic.

ILLNESS PROTOCOL

There are numerous viruses both gastric and respiratory going around at the moment. Please do not send sick or symptomatic children to school as this can have an impact on other families and also on our teaching staff. There is a chronic shortage of substitute teachers available at the moment.

Covid is still in the community and isolation protocols are still in place. If your children are symptomatic please keep them at home. While we are under no obligation to report cases anymore we will try and inform classes if there is more than one case in a room so that families can make informed decisions about school and other activities.

CARE HOME INITIATIVE

Hazel and Fiona (4th class) have signed up to carepack.ie which is a kindness initiative that connects residents in nursing homes & facilities with a kindness volunteer (H&F’s class) who will write to them and send them a little care pack to say they are thinking of them. We will be gathering items for the packs over the next few weeks and sending them off in December. If you have anything that you would like to contribute you can drop it in to Hazel and Fiona’s classroom or perhaps you would like to sign up yourself to this lovely initiative and let someone know you are thinking of them. An Post have kindly sponsored all packages up to 1kg so postage is free!

PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Save the date. December 4th – Online Winter Family Quiz. Details to follow – sure to be a great success. Funds raised will go towards yard enhancements.
Thank you to everyone for their support of the Book Fair. We raised over 3000 euro to buy books for our school.

MUSIC WITH CLOGHER ROAD ET / ETB

Fourth class have been enjoying music lessons with Eimear over the last nine weeks, next week is our last class and then we will be ready for a performance with a live band.

It’s really exciting. Singing in three parts with a fourth group doing percussion has tested our concentration but we are nearly there. We will be performing our songs and percussion in Clogher Road next week, big thanks to the management of both schools who worked together to make this possible. Also big thank you to Eimear for all the time and effort she has put in and the music she has brought to our classes.

ACTIVE SCHOOLS COMMITTEE

The active schools committee have introduced skipping ropes during yard time. It has been a big hit on the lower yard and the long ropes are proving very popular on the senior yard. Well done to the Active Schools committee for all their hard work so far.
