SCHOOL LEAVERS. If your family is not returning to the school in September we would appreciate if you could let us know as soon as possible.

INCOMING JUNIOR INFANTS We will be hosting our incoming Junior Infants across two days next week – 5th & 6th June at 1:30 for a visit to their classroom. Emails will be set outlining which children are to visit on each day. We will be taking half of each class on each day so as not to overwhelm the children on their visit. Parents are welcome to stay for a quick tour of the school.

SCHOOL TOURS Junior Infants enjoyed a fun day out at Airfield Farm last Friday. Senior Infants up to 3rd Class have their tours this week and 4th / 5th & 6th class will have their tour on June 5th. Please make sure your children are on time for school on their tour day as the buses will leave promptly. Thank you to all those who have paid already and reminders will be sent out for the remainder.

PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT – MUMPS. The HSE has alerted schools to the many cases of mumps being reported. Please refer to the HSE site here for information on Mumps, symptoms, spread, treatment etc.

COMMUNITY – Canal Way notes with sadness, the passing of John Richards of Basin lane Terrace. Many of you would have passed John by every morning as he stood outside his door, having his cigarette and cup of tea. John was a great friend of CWETNS and was always there to give a helping hand with deliveries, assisting visitors at the door, and he played a key role in freeing the cleaners the day they were locked into the school.

Fond memories of John – our sympathies to the family and friends of the John Richards at this sad time.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION NEWS

Canal Way BBQ – The Summer Fair is on Sunday 09 June, 2pm – 4pm in the school garden. It’s going to be a fun filled day for all the family with BBQ, music, dancing, crafts, games, an international food table, bike sale and more…. so make sure it’s in your calendar!

The international table: We are asking people to bring their favourite dish from home or abroad to share on our international food table.  Please label dishes and as always, no foods with nuts/seeds. Dishes will be laid out on a table for people to try, so no perishable items, please.

The bike sale: Please bring unwanted bikes, scooters and skateboards to the bike sale at the Summer Fair. Unsold items will need to be brought home that day or the following day.

We are aiming to have this as a Leave No Trace event. If you can, please bring your own cup for juice/water. All cups, napkins and plates at the Fair will be compostable and we will have clearly labelled bins.

Looking forward to seeing you all there on the 09th June, hopefully along with some sunshine ☀
